Why I Became
a Dentist

Dr. Mo’s interest in dentistry was first piqued in elementary school when a man named “Dr. Toothy” informed her that she was going to have eight teeth removed and metal wires “glued” to her teeth – all within four weeks! Although the next three years felt a bit like an orthodontic boot camp, her dedication and perseverance paid off. When she saw two straight rows of snugly fitted teeth, she began to reflect on the transformation with curiosity rather than displeasure.

Dr. Mo’s interest in dentistry continued to grow through shadowing, research, and didactics. Plus, this career path combined her academic inclination toward biomedical sciences, her desire to help others, and her love for working with her hands. The rest, as they say, is history!

My Educational
Background

Dr. Mo attended the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education in New York City, which has a combined BS/DDS program. From there, she studied at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Although she could’ve graduated a year earlier, she wanted to add an MPH with the dental school's Section of Population Oral Health department in collaboration with the Mailman School of Public Health.

Although this alone is a testament to her dedication, she then completed a two-year residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During this time, she underwent advanced training in everything from esthetic dentistry and surgical therapies to implant placement and endodontics. Furthermore, she is an active member of the following professional organizations:

  • American Dental Association
  • Massachusetts Dental Association
  • American Academy of General Dentistry

My Life Outside of

In her free time, Dr. Mo enjoys visiting national parks with her family. So far, her favorites have been the Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone National Park. As a family, they also enjoy the seasons change in the Northeast, which has inspired them to venture out to different sceneries year-round. It allows them to adventure together while enjoying some quality time! Here’s something you may not know about her: she pursued a study abroad trip to Chile during dental school to study the Spanish language, culture, and diverse religions.
