Just like for those with traditional braces, keeping on top of your oral health during Invisalign treatment is important to prevent pushing back your journey due to an unexpected toothache or gum infection. One of the best ways to do this is to clean your trays at least once a day, ideally twice, to prevent plaque and debris from becoming trapped between your teeth and aligners. Read on to learn how you can clean your trays effectively, including the best way to utilize your Invisalign cleaning crystals.
How Do You Use Invisalign Cleaning Crystals?
Invisalign cleaning crystals are an excellent product to incorporate into your treatment to keep your trays clear, odor-free, and clean. You can purchase them from your dentist in North Attleborough or directly from Invisalign’s website.
Once you get your crystals, you’ll want to use them daily to upkeep your trays. First, remove your aligners and rinse them off under lukewarm or cool tap water. Avoid using hot water, as this can warp their shape. Fill a glass with enough warm water to ensure the trays will be fully submerged, and empty one packet of the crystals into the glass. Stir or swirl the water for 20 seconds, let the water stand, and then swirl it again for 20 seconds, until the crystals have dissolved. Soak your trays in the solution for 15 to 30 minutes once a day.
Are Cleaning Crystals the Only Way to Clean Your Trays?
You don’t have to purchase Invisalign cleaning crystals to keep your trays sparkling. You can also clean them using a soft bristled toothbrush and clear, scent and color-free hand soap. This will help kill any lingering bacteria on them as well as prevent them from becoming stained. If you don’t have access to cleaning crystals, you can also soak your trays in a diluted distilled white vinegar solution consisting of one part vinegar to three parts water and letting them sit in it for 15 minutes.
How Else Can You Prevent Oral Health Problems During Invisalign?
Your oral health is just as much of a priority as getting your teeth aligned! Signs of gum disease, cavities, and other dental concerns that occur during your treatment will need to be quickly addressed, meaning your Invisalign journey may need to be on a short hold until those issues are resolved. By brushing and flossing before you put your trays in (every time!) and making sure that you regularly rinse your trays before and after you eat snacks or meals, you can drastically reduce your chances of developing dental conditions throughout your journey.
